What's Your Story

Tell us about your experience with prepaid gift cards

Gift cards have a lot going for them. Your recipient can shop and get what he or she really wants, the giver doesn't have to worry about sizes or favorite colors, and it can make giving seem more fair—each person on your list receives a fixed value.

We're preparing an article about the downsides—including unused cards. Tower Group, Needham, Mass., estimates that about 8% of the $97 billion worth of gift cards sold in 2007 will go unused, an astonishing $7.75 billion. What happens to that cash?

Tell us your gift card experience—positive and negative, as giver or receiver—and we may use your account to help develop the article. Of course, we will protect your privacy. Submit your response here by June 2, 2008.

Please include only your first name and the state where you live. If it's OK for us to follow up by e-mail to learn more about your experience, provide your e-mail address. We will use it for no purpose other than to develop the article.

And, to learn more about gift cards in the meantime, read Are You Holding an Invalid Gift Card?
