OK, readers, this month's Fickle Finger of Fate involves removing a large tree--at a large price tag. Could you handle this kind of unforeseen but necessary expense? How well?

1. Hello, I joined today and I have concerns about how to get my credit built back up. My last score was in the fair state, and then...stupid me decides to look at buying a car, well, they tried to get me with any and all banks that would approve me and yet no one did, but when ALL the banks ran my credit, my score dropped 70 points. I've been working my butt off trying to build my credit up and I make a stupid mistake. HELP! What can I do to build it up faster. I've been paying all my bills on time. Can I speed things up?

2. Rhonda, you are on the right track. The fact that a number of credit inquiries were made while you were credit shopping should not affect your score too much or for too long. You really can't speed the process up--only time and demonstrated good behavior will raise your credit score. What you can do is point out to a prospective lender that you've turned a fresh page and are making steady progress on improving your credit score. Good for you! Search on this site for "credit score" and you’ll see more information about rebuilding a credit score once it has some dings and scratches. Do not be discouraged—you have a much brighter future due to your efforts. Susan
